Luis Reyna, Vietnam Veteran, US Army

Luis Reyna, was born in Elsa, Texas September 12, 1947.  He lived in the Westside of San Antonio Texas until he was Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He had Basic Training at Ft. Polk Louisiana now it is Ft. Johnson. Following basic training he was transferred to Ft. Lewis Washington for advanced infantry training AIT.  

The soldiers stayed at Ft. Lewis for about six months until the Army had enough soldiers to create the 6th Battalion of approximately 850 soldiers.  The Battalion was activated to Vietnam in March 1968.

He served as an infantryman in the Republic of South Vietnam and a member of a unique and little known unit entitled, "The Mobile Riverine Force."  This unit operated deep in the Mekong Delta and was made up of the combined forces of the U.S. Army's 9th Infantry Division and the U.S. Navy.  Because of his wounds he was removed from the field and returned to his unit hospital.  He had only two weeks remaining in Vietnam.  His last Military Service grade was Sergeant E-5, and served in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division, 6th Battalion, 31st Regiment, Bravo Company 3rd Platoon from March 1968 to April 1969. 

He is a recipient of the following Military medals: Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal With A Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal With A Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam, Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal

After the Military in 1969, he went to work at Kelly AFB as a Jet Engine Mechanic, Engineering Technician and Logistics Manager, for 34 years of civil service. After civil service he went to work at Lockheed Martin for eleven years as an Engineer Technician. After 45 years of working in Civil Service and at Lockheed Martin he volunteerly separated. At the present time he volunteers twice a week at the Methodist Hospital.  He has volunteered at the hospital for the last 11 years. 

He has been married for 52 years to his beautiful wife Estella Reyna, they have two children Elizabet and Albert and six grandchildren. 

He is a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter 1836 since 2005 and serves as a Webmaster and a Trustee Officer. He is also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans chapter 14 in Helotes TX.
